Heater matrix bypass

Postby Jaypeepee » Fri Sep 23, 2016 3:59 pm

Thanks for the tips lads.
I have zero mechanical skills so probably not a job for me.
Interested in the 'bypass' option - didn't know it was possible. Does anyone know anyone who can do that?

Thanks
JPP

Yea i did this on a temp basis on my black FTO till i had the chance to replace the matrix
To do the bypass you'll need to have a long nose vise grips. A flat head screwdrive and about 6 inches of copper pipe ( cant remember the size i think 15mm but it is 16years since i done it)

If you look at your bulkhead you'll see the 2 rubber pipes (inlet/outlet) connected to 2 spigots with hose clips. Using the long nose vise grips open up one of the hose clips and use flathead screwdriver to pry the pipe off. Repeat for other pipe.
Once both undone connect both pipes to eirher end of the copper pipe and hold inplace with hose clips (the hose clips are a bit fiddley and you may decide to use jubilee clips instead) . Once done thats the bypass complete. Just check fluid levels after and top up if required

Hope this helps
