Central locking problems illustrated

Postby steelroe » Thu Jul 17, 2008 7:39 pm

The fto is haunted with problems with one or both of the central locking motors not working. I have repaired several and have taken pic of the offending item below.

The brushes in the motor wear. The green disk is a thermistor to protect the motor from overload. If you take out hte motor I am pretty sure malpins or radionics would have a replacement. The brass gear on the end of the shaft will come off pretty easy.

I read somewhere (ftooc I think) that the green thermistor bit was often to blame... have a lock I was trying to refurbish before but couldn't find a replacment thermistor that would fit handy. Was ages back though, might try again.

I dont think the thermistor is at fault. It is used as a overload switch.

Every time I have just replaced the motor (approx 10-15 units repaired). I have seen smoke coming out of some of the motors and not enough power to turn the lock. Apparently a common fauld on some Lexus models aswell.

I have source the motors to the manufacturer but you have to order huge quantities. BUt now I have the part no. I reckon I should be able to source replacement else where.

I have located a supplier for the OEM motors and hope to do reconditioned locks on exchance basis very soon (fully tested).

That other link works well but I like to keep the car as standard as possible (replace like with like)

those look like the sort of motors rc enthusiasts use as well so it could be worth while checking places that sell RC cars, Boats, and such fun stuff as well.
