E85 fuel & the FTO

Postby Muad_dib77 » Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:23 am

There's a few car nutters on my team in work and one of them found this here:

http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=279342
http://www.maxol.ie/E85/index.html

Now to me it looks like it's octane level is a wee bit higher than the standard 92-95 that we're "blessed with" - AND it appears to be cheaper as well.

I know that if something looks to good to be true it normally is.

Would the FTO run on this fuel? Did anybody try? Did your car blow up?

Dunno, I don't think I'd fancy trying it in mine...

What Vehicles can use E85?

The Ford Focus FFV and the Saab 9-5 BioPower are currently the two flexible fuel vehicles available on the Irish market. Maxol does not recommend the use of E85 in a vehicle unless it is designated by the manufacturer as a flexible fuel vehicle. With regard to the use of engine conversion kits, Maxol recommends that car owners seek advice from their car manufacturer before proceeding with a kit installation.

Isn't the fuel generally available only about 90 octane? :?

I meant the normal unleaded/super unleaded fuel you'd buy in Shell or Statoil or one of those... had 90 octane in my head but see maxol's site talking about 95.

Ah right - I think it varies from supplier to supplier tbh.. I've seen EMO stations rate it at 92 and Maxols at 95..

When I was a kid I used to work at a Hydro/Texaco station in Denmark - on the pumps there were 3 settings 98,95,and 92... However the 95 and 92 came from the same tank.. So yeah.. It was dearer but you got the same juice..
