Another rusted exhaust

Postby asti_mivec » Thu May 01, 2008 11:01 am

Hi folks,

I'm just wondering if anybody knows if it's possible to replace the small piece of pipe that connects the backbox to the middle section of the exhaust. I only recently bought the car and knew that there was a bit of rust here but it has gotten quite a bit worse and I'm not sure whether I can simply get a small bent piece to connect to the (aftermarket) backbox or if I need to replace the backbox altogether?

Has anybody else experienced similar and if so, did you just replace the entire backbox?

Thanks in advance folks.

Got my centre section replaced in a place called Dun Laoghaire Motor Works. Very very good job done on it and he only took it for the day. Well worth looking into if the rest of the exhaust is in good shape.

Did you not end up spending the bones of a new camskill exhaust on that repair though?

Personnally I'd recommend that if your OE centre section/backbox is starting to rot in one place - then the rest of the exhaust is not far behind - and you should just buy a freer flowing aftermarket exhaust.

Yeah I did but the Invidia backbox was put on just over a year ago so there was no point in buying a full system. The other thing too is that the cost of mine included fitting etc. and according to a mechanic it was a very good job and well worth the money, will outlast the car apparently ha!
