Geometry settings on modified suspension.

Postby Aidan » Wed Jan 30, 2008 4:21 pm

I have noticed that my alignment is way off. The outsides of both my front tyres are completely bald. Time for new tyres and the alignment corrected. I've changed a few things on the suspension i.e. Lowered apex springs, poly bushes front and back including offset castor front bottom arm rear bush, droplinks (shorter on the back), front uder car strut brace.

Can the alignment be done as if there were no modifications or does the garage need to know exactly what has changed in order to compensate for the changes?

best to tell them - but they should be able to dial it in if they're any use.

Where abouts are you located - perhaps there are some recomendations for your region.

Aidan - I presume you had the suspension properly tracked after you changed the springs, bushes and droplinks. If not - well theres your reason why you are seeing the wear patterns on your tyres. The suspension should have been realigned back to as close to orig spec as possible though I tended to run up to a -1 deg neg camber purely from a handling perspective.

I had it tracked after I changed the springs, that was about 18 months ago. I've only changed the bushes in the past few months but I didn't do them all together. I knew the tracking was going to be knocked out but I wanted to wait till it was all finished before I got it tracked. I didn't think that the tyres would wear so quickly.
I normally got DTAS to to it but I was thinking of giving Dave McCann a go this time. He says his equipment is better.

Shane- When you say you ran with a -1deg neg camber, was that on the front and did it effect the wear of the tyre.

Yep - On the front - tyres wore perfectly evenly - its not that far off spec to make much of a difference.

Aidan let me know how you get on with Mr McCann. I'm not a fan of him but maybe his work is good..
