Brake discs.

Postby PT FTO » Mon Jun 19, 2006 10:58 am

Guys, forgive me if this is a stooopid question   . I'm getting a vibration in the front wheels under braking. I thought it may have been the pads but have replaced them and still there. Thinking now it may be a warped disc. To confirm this i want to swap them out. Can I interchange the rear discs with the front ones, ie. are they the same? Or if anyone has any other sugestions for the vibrations
mmmm!! GPX........and its not all mine anymore....:-(

I firmly believe that most of this type of issue is nothing to do with the discs at all - most are perfect and it would take an awful lot to warp them.

Before you change anything or go tinkering with the discs - perform this test :

- Find a nice straight stretch of quiet road
- Drive to about 100kph
- Stand hard on your brakes and bring yourself to near standstill (without locking the wheels of course)
- Do this 3 or 4 times

If you still have a serious judder then you may have a disc problem - if not, you have solved your problem 8)

Let us know how you get on.

This one has been discussed a few times, do a search and you should get a few results back, see examples below:

I had vibration after I changed my front pads for ebc redstuff pads. Standard discs.

What I found was I tended to sit on the brake pedal at traffic lights, etc. (I reckon probably ~95% of Irish drivers do this), so when I stopped doing that and used the hand brake at lights, etc. instead it improved and hasn't returned since.
