They have bad days and good days..
I'm guessing mostly bad ones though...
I used to sympathise but I know a few in the service and I have heard about some serious pi$$ taking and they would openly admit that for 99% once the uniform goes on tolerance generally goes out the window - in fact many would have banter with the real crimms because they know there's no fear there - from what I can see it's widely encouraged to use the "fear factor" many law abiding people would have....
But this is just what I've heard so many someone can correct me here...
Just to give my opinion. Been stopped a few times. Was followed by the gardai a couple of times for driving at excessive speed. First time I apologised and said I was just running late. He asked if that was any excuse, and I said absolutely not, apologised again. He asked where I was going and I said "a poker game" and he relaxed up and said "at least you honest about it" etc. Let me off with a verbal warnign to slow down.
another time guys followed me coming out of the drag traps (toll bridge) too fast. I never did over 70 but by god I tore up to 70mph. They pulled me in on the N3 then and checked the tax, where I lived etc, asked if I was trying to incite a race? I said no, not at all. and the guy was ok so, just cool your jets.
Last week got stopped at checkpoint and asked if I would NCT the car. I said absolutely, I only have it a few weeks so haven't got around to it just yet, butits on the list. he said ok so, work away.
So my brief experiences with the cops have been very positive. I take the opinion that if you have a good attitude and treat them with the respect they deserve (they do a tough job people) then i thnk 90% of them wil bem ore than fair with you. Too many people have "attitude" before they even roll the window down. thats only ever gonna get you in trouble. Im sure there are a few bad ones "power trippers" etc, but I have not seen this personally.
