Karl, not trying to worry you but it could be a burst heater matrix (search the forum). Check the carpet in the passenger footwell, if its wet, expect the worst.

Its a messy job, the whole dash has to come out to replace the matrix. Search is your friend...

Suggest you take it easy when driving and check the coolant level every day, if the engine overheats, you'll have much bigger problems...

The same thing happened with my car don't panic, I got a secondhand one from a scrap yard for 60euro I think? Could have been 50euro? & my boyfriend fitted it, now I must say when I walked out to the garden (half way thro) to see how he was getting on? I thought he had murdered my car & he would never get it back together but he did :smt058 & the secondhand one worked perfect never an ounce of bother from it again, if you can't locate one in a scrap yard you can buy them new on Ebay.

Karl it's just a slight bit tricky and time consuming but doable in a day, there are several owners on here that have done it myself included so if you decide to do it yourself (garage will charge you a fortune) i'm sure we can answer any questions you have
