Just wonder why most of you guys don't provide your location when joining the forum. I would make life easier for guys like me who live in KERRY to know where some other FTO owner live close to me.
Just a suggestion

...and a good one it is too. I would urge everyone who hasn't specified their location in their profile to do so. I was thinking of setting up a map of the country so as you can mouse over a county to see how many owners live in the locality. Ironically, 'online communities' lack a sense of community, this effort would go towards improving the perception of member distribution throughout the country.

I modified the registration process to enable this function some time ago but I could never get it to work properly

I don't mean to spoil the fun, but i'm sure there are some people that are parinoid that someone that they dont want (ie. car thief) will visit the site see what area they are from and come looking for their car to nick? just a thought. so i say leave it optional or have it in a section where only registered members can view thou that doesn't stop a car thief from registering???

Old thread revival - I would encourage everyone to specify their county in the location profile field in an effort to get a feel for membership distribution. It also helps us to provide localised advise and assistance to newer members.

I think the idea is to put you location into you profile so it is visible on the right side of the screen

PET HATES

Postby steelroe » Sat Apr 03, 2010 4:39 pm

I have something that really annoys me when people register on sites like this. Why do you not post your location in your profile. I am not saying post your address just the county town or city you live in. I would make things easier when answering queries. My suggestion would be to make it requirement when registering.

Topic merged, not the first time you've brought this up Rory!

I'll look at the possibility of making the location field mandatory on sign-up, I'll need to trick about with the forum code to make it happen, its not a default option.

I'm pro choice. Some people simply don't want their whereabouts known. If you want to know where someone is from there is always the PM system.

I think if anyone is asking for help or parts, recommendations for garages etc. it helps if the location is displayed
