Is my FTO MIVEC??

Postby briencrean » Thu Jun 05, 2008 11:48 pm

As far as I was concerned I have a GR model which as I understand is not MIVEC.

I know this may seem like a silly question but when I hit high revs, say 4,500 I get what I know as the MIVEC roar and subsquently take off like a rocket! I'm not very well up on the internal workings of engines so I just assumed it was the V6 engine. My car 'savy' friends reckon however, that my FTO is MIVEC even though it may be a GR model.

When I bought my FTO there were no decals or badges to suggest that the FTO was a GPX. From the first 4 digits of the chassis number DE3A after looking online I found that this relates to a GR model.

Could a previous owner have upgraded or change parts of the engine to make it MIVEC??

It might sound obvious but if it's mivec, it'll say so in big red letters

But could it be a possibility that someone changed cover on the engine head or changed the engine? Is there any other way to tell its MIVEC besides the whats written on the head?

It's possible that the engine was changed...

Thiswill decode your chassis number for you, might help...

Is the oil cap on the left or the right side as you look into the engine bay? Left side is Mivec. Right side is a GR engine.

I had a mirage R (non mivec) which also changed engine pitch at approx 5000Rpm but it was not as obivous as the mivec switch and would get breathless much easier so I guess u could say it wasn't doing much to sustain the torque curve at higher revs as mivec does!

iv a mivec and my car opens up at 4,500 but the mivec dosnt kick in till 5500.

just well running car. its selecting an agressive map id say.

if the oil cap is on the left its a good sign its a mivec.

but again at a standstill rev it up tp 6000 and youll know if its a mivec

Do you have any electronic doodads installed that might override the factory rpm limiter?

And here's an example of non-Mivec. Distinct difference.
