I went with CJ's advice on that thread - bought two sets of Blue Vision headlight bulbs and modified (cut off a plastic tab with a stanley) one set to fit the FTO dims - also got the parking lights and fog lights to match.

Got them from powerbulbs as well - V quick delivery - look a lot better and you'll get a decent increase in light - esp dims which are crap as standard.

BTW - the model of bulb you need to get is HB3 (Headlight)
Dims are HB4 if you don't want to buy two sets of HB3 and cut off the tab (its a 2 sec job - well worth it IMO).

I like this idea - anyone know whether the standard license plate bulbs are used in the map reading lights ?

Anyone done it ?

9005 High Beam - HB3
9006 Low Beam - HB4 (or HB3 and cut plastic strip on bulb)
501 Sidelights - W5W
453 Front fog lamp - H3

I would recomend using all the same type of bulb - It will look crap if you have bluevision dims and normal sidelights or head lights - You'll have a nice crisp blue light beside a dirty yellow light and it won't look right.

What year is your car Aidan?

On the prefacelifts - the first turn should bring on your sidelights - the second turn brings on the dims - then push forward for heads.
There is a button on your right on the dash which turns on and off the front fogs. The fogs and sidelights are in the same pod at the front - if you unscrew the unit it should be quite clear.

Its a 95 gr,,everything is working as you described, but when i flick the fog switch it only puts on the rear fog, theres no change in the fromt indicator cluster at all.
Ive undone the screw in the lense but caunt seen to get the unit out.
Is it possible that i dont have front fogs??or do all GR s have front fogs??
have u any advise on how to remove the unit so i can have a closer look.

Its just the one screw as far as I can remember - its quite a long screw - but you should be then able to pull the unit out unless theres been some kind of sealant applied (unlikely). There is a bar on the back on the indicator pod that guides the unit and helps it to sit correctly.

It is possible that when your rear fog lamp was fitted in the UK to your front fog light switch that the front fogs were disconnected but this seems rather a daft thing to do.
You could check the bulbs and the relevant fuse also.
All FTO's have front fogs - I don't imagine it will be a big job to sort - its very likely something simple.

Generally the pre facelift light unit in the bumper consists of indicators, foglights and sidelights - the ones nearest the grill are the fogs, outer are indicators and in the middle are the sidelights.

Is there no wiring for the fogs even??

When I think about it - a lot of the facelifts don't seem to have fogs either - It may very well not have been a standard fitment to the FTO - prefacelift or post facelift!! - If you don't have them - don't worry about them - they don't give out much useful light anyway and you don't need them for the MOT. :?

No there is no wiring for the fogs, nor even anywere for them to go in the cluster even.
Not to wory anyway, least i have learned a few things, lol, now i can get on with ordering my bulbs, just dont need any fogs ,least that will save me a few quid for some other mod.

THANX FOR THE INFO AND ADDVISE ANYWAY ,YOUR A STAR!!!

Yeah I probably will, although I must say I have not been impressed with any aftermarket bulbs I have bought - from the cheapest to the most expensive.

- 2 sets of LED 5W driving lights (all 4 blown)
- 1 set of HB4 Super-White Fogs (both blown)
- 1 set of PIAA (super expensive) dip beams (both blown)

I have had the car for 6 years now and guess which bulbs I have now.......

......the original full set I started with 6 years ago !!!!

In all that time the only original bulb to blow was 1 rear brake light bulb !!

As for the lights are u back on the stock bulbs now then?? have u tried the philips blue visions? they are the ones ive got on order, just hope they are ok.
Thats the only problem when u start changing to certain products like bulbs and other aftermarket products,u always seem to have problems and end up going bk to the stock ones "BETTER THE DEVIL U KNOW SOMETIMES".
