Lads could anyoune tell me which are good tyres to use in wet conditions. I recently got 4 new tyres for my FTO which seem to be great in the last few weeks since it was dry weather, However since the roads have been damp lately the tyres appear to be very poor in wet conditions. If I break reasonable hard even if I am going slow the car just slides for long distances. No road grip at all. They also spin easily. As I said even at slow speeds (i.e 30mph). My break pads were only done 3 weeks ago so i presume there fine. I was hoping only to change out the front tyres because of cost. Is this ok? Any replies would be greatly appreciated as I hope to change the tyres this weekend.

Zacob, Toyos Proxes T1s and Goodyear Eagle F1s are two of the best tyres you can put on an FTO in terms of grip and handling, plenty of owners will tell you the same thing from experience. I would be wary of replacing the fronts and leaving bad quality tyres on the rear, plenty of grip at the front and none at the back could have disastrous affects if you have to brake hard (esp. in the wet). Out of interest, what brand of tyres are your rims currently wearing?

I would recommend the Goodyear F1 Eagles also - esp in the wet - though the best dry weather tyre I have used has to be the Pirelli P Zero Nero.
Value for money though the verdict has to be F1 Eagles - I can get these for around 145euros each - the PZeros are stupid money.

If your looking for better value I think that Falken do a pretty good wet weather tyre - or Bridgestone RE720's seem to suit the FTO as well - you'll probably tell us now that you were using Falkens or RE720's and I'll look like a tit!

AFAIK, Falken is owned by Bridgestone so it would be fair to expect the same quality of tyre from the both manufacturers. An FTO owning mate stuck a set of Falkens on some new rims and he rates them highly.

The name of the tyre's i'm currently using are champiro.They were fitted by the garage I bought the car off. Below is an online review I found on them.

"Made in China! Well for all their road holding ability they might as well be made OF China. They were cheap I guess but they aint made me cheerful.My advice would be to Avoid them like the plague and if you have a choice go for the Plague it'll be safer!!"

Lads the goodyear F1 eagles, is there a certain name as there seems to be a few different types of this tyre.

They sound awful ive driven on tyres that were close to the legal limit a few times before and they werent half as bad as you describe,

Get rid of them quick!!!

On tyre prices the Pirelli PNZ are 136.20 and the gooyear F1's are 113.50 euro's on this website www.eiretyres.com which seems to be a good price. Anyone ever dealt with them?.

Yeah i did a couple of times, Never had a problem with them. I think a few people on this site use them, There very good prices how big are the wheels?

i got a set off them, toyo proxes and no problems, nice and quick. plus they can deliver to a garage that they deal with and you just go along and get them fitted! plus they are cheap as chips!

Regarding cheap tyres, I have a set of Savas and they're not bad in the wet but they're definitely not as good as proper high-quality tyres.

Is that the right size profile ? - I have 17's myself but I would have thought you should have a 50 profile tyre on there.

Thats a great price for the tyres though - Personally I would go with the Perilli P Zero's as there isn't a big diff in price - but you won't go wrong with the F1 Eagles either - as for type - they have a large V shape pattern across the tyre - ensure they are ZR,Y, or W rated - that would be a pretty good indication as to the quality of the tyre.

CHAMPIRO are extremely cheap and dangerous, not for WET or fast driving.

The original tyres were 50's but the garage replaced them with 45's. will this have an effect on milage ect?

Do 45's not look funny on the wheel - is there not loads of gap between tyre and wheel arch?

Also FYI - Toyos seem to have a much bigger sidewall than most other tyres - I have a set of toyos on the back of my GR and the sidewall looks slightly bigger than the federal's I have on the front even though they are the same size -

45's look crap. As you said to much space. The garage put them on as they didn't have 50's. That another reason to change wheels.

or just get some 50 profile tyres and lower the car...

Lowered on 225/18's with a 40 profile! They must surely be rubbing on the arch liners - esp at full lock? Does the wheel not hit the arch liner when you hit a bump?

i only get slight rubbing on full lock on one side!! the lining is hanging a little so that's it, and no, no rubbing going over the bumps!!
