Neon pads

My neon kick plates have been going on the blink lately, i took the control unit off and found if i pressed down on the transformer it would light the pads again,, i hard wired everything up just incase it was a crack in the circuit board but i still need to press down on the transformer,, the transformer seems to be made up of alot of components aswell all epoxy'd together am i correct in saying it may be changing the voltage to AC aswell? heard something about neon pads and AC,, if not cud anybody tell me what voltage is put out to the each neon pad?(i would check myself but i can't find the tranny i took off), I'm going to try and slap a few componets together to acheieve whatever output i need to light these suckers.
