How long did it take you to do the cleaning / degreasing ?

Yes, pics are after cleaning and sanding down. It did occur to me after I washed the wheels that they where in reasonably good nick but there was no turning back at that point. The fronts are not as clean.

Cleaning and sanding took about 45min per wheel, I let them dry out overnight.

Masking about half an hour per wheel. 3 x coats of primer/paint/laquer 1.5 hours allowing for time between coats. Finish keyed between applications. I probably should have waited longer for the paint to dry pre-laquer, keying with 1500 sand paper left a mark in places (barely noticable). I'd suggest letting the paint sit for a couple of hours.

Will pull the 2 wheels out of the shed in the morning and throw them back onto the car, goto start....

Just wondering, I remembered Laura talking about painting the mitsi symbol red.

Here's a look at my shoddy work...

Up close you can tell how much effort (or lack thereof) I put into it, but from a reasonanble distance I think they look ok.

Nice job UB, I notice you didin't mask up the valve, assume you were looking for colojur continuety? Any issue with the valve head jamming up?

Heres some comparison pics of my work, overall I'm happy with the result. I learned 3 lessons which may be of use to others attempting the same job:

1. Wait a few hours before keying the paint surface prior to laquer application. Alternatively, don't key and clean with a solvent such as meths.

2. Don't be too over zealous with the laquer. Apply even coats and allow to dry for 15-20 mins between coats, this will protect against paint run.

3. If possible, bring the wheels indoors soon after your final coat of laquer. Leave beside a radiator for faster drying.

Nice job CJ, really brightens them up.

Mark, I'd love to lower my car but it's another thing that will up my insurance. Declaring a air filter is costing me around 100 a year. God only knows what lowering would cost.

Colm, photoshoot was done with white alloys, doesn't matter as colour is irrelevant.

I've seen them KC, they're manky ;)

You should consider doing this job yourself some time, its time consuming but not difficult.

Technically, the GPVR has lowered suspension anyway.

Very nice CJ!

I just gave the valves a quick dart, had them taped up while doing the job.
Black peeking through the white would have detracted from the look IMO.

I'd say that I would need to spend at least 3 times that amount of time per wheel to get mine into any sort of respectable condition. They have serious degradation of the laquer coat and brake dust ingrained into them.

If you fit different lowered suspension you shouldn't have to declare it, like if you had different 16" alloys to standard would you declare that?

Very hard to prove exactly what is aftermarket or otherwise on a 12 year old car. especially when the GPVR has RalliArt strut braces etc. on from factory.

Are they ralliart struts?! Cool!!

Yeah, but wouldn't it seem obvious to look at...? As in, it definitely does not look lowered now...

I'd love to change them for comfort even, bloody things are too hard IMO, I need a sports bra in my bloody car and my passengers are always moaning...

LMAO....

In all seriousness though, does anyone else experience this in their gpvr?

It's currently in for a full service and I'll get him to look at the dampers and suspension and see if there are problems there. I feel that after hitting a bump the car is still recovering a few seconds after...

Laura, you really have to take my car for a spin.
You think your car is a little hard... try lowering on tein coilovers and fitting a H brace underneath.

Nice job on the whites with painted logos - how long did this take you ?

Rather than trying to re-furb mine, I wound up buying a 'new' set in great condition for €100 (including 4 Michelins)

A while :)

Had to tape cap completely, then cut out 3 diamonds with blade, spray, let dry, repeat :)
