Next car....

Decision made & the TT will be going up for sale early in the new year. I've gone from pillar to post and after looking into a lot of different options I've eventually come back to the one I started with - a B6 S4.

I was sold on an E46 M3 but after reading a lot of horror stories about expoding rear diffs and massive service costs I decided that wasn't for me. I was also leaning towards a 350z but I know I could live with the lack of space (half the reason I'm changing from the TT) - lovely car though so it was a hard decision.

One of the considerations I had was the cost of tax on a big capacity engine so what finally crystalised things was when I fished around for insurance quotes - currently paying 1100 euro fully comp on the TT and when I was quoted only 660 euro fully comp with 500 euro excess on an S4 Avant the decision was made.... I could live with the tax if the insurance is that much cheaper.

Now the big decision is Avant or Saloon......

Not a bad choice Shane (considering its not Jap and all ;)). Are you going to go the UK route (more choice) or stay local?

I'm going to look at both - I'd prefer to buy form a dealer for peace of mind but if I can get a good enough deal in the UK (before the VRT changes) then I'd be happy to go that route and just get a good 3rd party warranty.

Saw that - I think the S4 is a much softer car than the RS4 - it does have a 4.2 V8 but only 344bhp as opposed to 404bhp and I think the suspension is softer. Still, I love the Avant shape and I really want a proper big engine before it's too late (in a few years) when petrol just becomes too expensive......

I don't really "need" the space but it would be much handier for ferrying around all my ski gear as it would mean no need to put skis inside the car. And I really like the look of the Avants.

But that said I'd be happy with a saloon too...

Awful spelling.... I meant "nice choice is right! I wouldn't bother with the Avant if I really didn't need the space."

There's something about an Avant lowered with some spacers....
