Nothing special - Just another boring golf - it's the seats that do it for me :-)

I found a nice blue 2000 5 door with leather heated recaro's. This time it's got the tech pack as well - cruise control (important with our new speed limits :? ), trip computer and 18" RS4 alloys (which I love). Also has 2 years NCT and has had the timing belt done (which is good)

I had Paul (Nolan) give the car the once over last night and he said it was sound - although it needs a small bit of money spent - new key required, scuff on rear bumper needs to be repaired and the window tints need to be removed.

Anyway that is all pending a look at a TT which Adrian put me onto -

FYI..................

This time around I was suprised at some of the rubbish people are selling, especially dealers (who shall remain nameless). I looked at quite a variety of cars including TT's, Golf's, an FTO (on the quiet), Volvo C70, lotus elise (at deerpark motors) and an S3. A lot of the TT's I looked at were private sales and ABSOLUTELY MAD MONEY. Most of the Golf's were trashed or vastly over priced. The FTO was knackered. And the Elise had the usual Elise problems of leaking roof and rattling interior (great car for summer but no way you could live with it). The volvo's were great though but just a bit boring....... so all in all there's a lot of rubbish out there these days.

Nice to see you were keeping your options open, quite a diverse bunch of cars!

I take it that means you have not finalised the sale :?:

In which case this might interest you....

Nice one on the golf spec - Hmm - Leather Recaros and RS4 alloys - beats having to fork out big bucks for those wheels.

Tell us more about the FTO you saw - don't spare the details!

Aye, the interior has become a big factor for me since owning the previous golf - the leather heated recaro's are amazing. So I really wanted to sample a wide variety of cars to get a feel for the driving seat - obviously I was targetting cars that were supposed to have decent performance too...

We haven't agreed a final price yet but that's more because I want to check out how much it's gonna cost me to get a new key, alarm, tints removed and scuff repaired. But to be honest, unless this guy with the TT is gonna drop the price a couple of grand (or the car is mint and loaded) the deal is done.

Yea, the spec is good - and I was always planning on getting either the RS4's or BBS CH alloys put on the old golf - not 100% convinced about 18's though, I hope they aren't too big - but then beggars can't be choosers.

Best way to sum it up was total waste of time.... it was a private sale by a dealer. You know the type - car advertised as private sale in B&S but when you ring it's a back street dealer who's selling for a mate. No history, speedo didn't work, took 20 minutes to get car started (it would tick over but not fire) - I actually had to go off for a while and come back to see it running), cut out when I was test driving it, no radio, no milage reading..... need I go on.... :-)

No - Please don't go on!
Sounds like a right bucket - but if your budget is Golf GTI / TT money - why are you looking at FTO's fit for distmantling - you should be looking at 00 GPX's/GPvR's and still have plenty of change from TT money?

Now you're talkin :)

We need to concentrate less on sensible German panzers and more on our Jap heritage methinks ;) For whats its worth, if it had to be German, I'm with SB on the S4 Quattro front.

FWIW, I agree - if taxing and insuring a 3.0lt twin turbo Supra wasn't such an ordeal over here I'd be in the market - FTO looks, RWD and serious power. It's the only pretty jap turbo'd car IMHO (flame suit on... )

Yeah the S4 is a special car.

Carolines GTT skyline was surprisingly refined which im guessing is what your looking for but the interior was nothing special.

The 350Z have a beautiful interior though (unless its orange!)And I know where theres a nice supercharged one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=299

Do you like Fast and Furious

yea, except there were none in the papers so I figured I go have a look and maybe consider getting a nice set of wheels, lower it a bit and a leather retrim

Would you not consider importing a GPvR yourself, They come up the odd time in the auctions.

Yeah, The VR4\Legnum is a serious street sleeper, reckon I'll have me one when I'm old (not long left now..) and sensible (never...).
