Postby iwannafto » Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:53 am

Brought my car into the garage today to get what I thought was a number of small items attended to before my NCT and receive a phone call about 30 minutes later to say that my car is a write off due to some rust hole on the chassis thats in a location were it cannot be welded....what I'm going to do?? I'm completely stunned by this news....

that sounds good too :-D

I'd definately get a 2nd opinion - I haven't head of this happening on an FTO before either. Even if there is a wee hole somewhere I'm sure it can be fixed with the right tool.

This is a common problem with UK regd FTO's, "SALT". I have 4 in my yard with rust right through the front of the valance under the fuse box. Wheel arch
area.

Yes the NCT will fail the car as dangerous. But It can be repaired, All rust needs to be removed, plates welded over the holes, fill and paint. this type of repair will be more than adequate for the NCT. You also need to check the rear chassis legs as more than likely damage here too.
I have seen this repair done and it is not noticable if done correctly.
