Question: If you get flashed for speeding (gatso) in the UK can you get done over here?

At the moment, no. The same is true for UK\Northern registered cars in the Republic. My understanding is that police forces in both countries are working towards sharing their databases but I doubt this will occur any time soon.

i was flashed a couple of times by cameras in the south in a northern reg car and i never heard anything more about it, but i do think the two forces are trying to organise something between them so they can prosecute in either the north or the south.

a unmarked gardai patrol car did get me once as i flew by them in my newly acquired fto which still had import plates on. they threatened to impound it on me!. i got a 50 punt fine and just paid it to save any hassle.

i don't think they'll follow you up with the speed camera though.

I heard a piece on the radio in November or December ( I thinki it was Joe Duffy) about how the Drogheda Council is using a NI debt collecting firm to collect unpaid parking fines from northerners who came down for the prices and the free parking. I don't remember any mention of speeding fines but if it's successful with parking, it'll spread to other revenue sources.

I can't see how it would work, trying to enforce a fine like that but if there's a few quid in it...
