Two quick questions!!! :)

Postby RussMan » Mon Jun 20, 2005 8:39 am

Hi,

I appear to have some seriously smelly air con. in my car just noticed it yesterday when the heat was too much for just having the windows open!!
Any ideas on what's wrong here, smells like a Tom Cat had a pee on the underside of the car!!

Other problem is my FTO door lights? Are these guys standard btw?
The pasenger side FTO neon light works but drivers side does not.... very nice touch by mitsu imo. Anyhow, just wondering do you know if these two lights are wired together and therefore a led / buld is gone or if they are on separate fuses?

Many Thanks
Russ

Russman, see this post with regard to bad smelling aircon:

The kick plates you're referring to were a factory option, its most likey that a wire has come loose at the back of the plate, remove it and trace the wires to source all the time checking for breaks in the cable. Kick plates don't have a fuse of their own and are hooked up to the reading / map light circuit.

I bought a can off Radionics in the past, I've checked their site and its not listed for some reason. I spotted a product in Halfords (Blanchardstown) last week that does the same thing, its just a bit more expensive (IIRC it was €20+). Its less invasive in that you turn the aircon on full and stick the can on the floor at the rear, it has a button mechanism that locks so you just kick off the spray and shut the door.

Update: It is listed, see here:

They'll send it via post for a nominal fee.

I took the opportunity to de-oderise the a/c system today as it was starting to stink a bit. I also removed the fan from the recirculator in the passenger footwell and gave it a wash, it was caked in dirt and dust. While I was there, I also got the hoover out and gave the whole unit a good clean. Result: smell gone :)
