CLUNK FROM FRONT RIGHT WHEN ACCELERATING AND BRAKING

IS THIS JUST A SIMPLE FAULT? LIKE THE TOP OF THE STRUT NEEDS TIGHTENING OR COULD IT BE MORE COSTLY?

Is it only on accelerating and braking, or can it happen when coasting too?

You could be right about it being the strut but it may need more than just tightening - have you had any suspension work done recently?

Just to rule out any steering issues - when you are stopped with the engine running and you turn the steering wheel - are you getting any knocking noises?

Without driving the car its difficult to speculate but at the moment without further info it could be anything from worn front ARB bushes or droplinks (most common FTO suspension noise) - to maybe a worn inner CV joint to maybe a front wheel bearing.

When you push down on the wing over the strut are you getting any noise? When was the last time you did your droplinks and bushes?

I've the exact same problem with mine at the moment, it only happens for me under hard accelerating or braking. I got eibach lowering springs fitted a couple of months ago so I'm guessing the standard FTO droplinks may have given up. I'll be leavin the car into Paul Nolan next week so I'll let ye know what the outcome is.

dont know much about the fto yet has have only had it for a few weeks, took it to local garage who are really good but have never done any work on an fto and they did not know what the clunk could be?. when i push down on wing there is no clunk would a new set of front struts and lowering springs solve the problem?

You don't need FTO knowledge to know where your suspension is making noise - your garage should have been able to identify the problem.
Impossible to say whether a set of dampers and springs would solve the problem - it might if the offending damper is worn but as mentioned it could be any number of other reasons - you really won't know untill you get it up on a ramp. Suggest you take the car somewhere other than your "local" and get someone to test the bushes, droplinks etc

If your FTO has never had its suspension addressed then you would certainly benefit from a set of dampers and lowering springs, ARB poly bushes and front and rear droplinks - check out www.camskill.co.uk for relevant parts or take a look at these posts for inspiration -
