GPX brakes wanted

Postby mark » Fri Nov 17, 2006 4:54 pm

Anyone got a spare front set of GPX calipers for my GR? Is the master cyclinder on the GR the same as GPX?

Yup, master cylinder is the same.

Don't forget you'll also have to get discs & pads, they're slightly bigger on the GPX than the GR.

Ya, did it a few months after I got the car. Justified the spend as a safety upgrade so didn't take much self convincing for that one!

The difference is noticeable at faster speeds, you get a better bite. I renewed the brake fluid too while I was at it.

Well worth changing the brake hoses to steel braided too if you haven't already.

Yeah, i'm mainly doing it as safety upgrade also. Was just about to ask if there was much of a difference braking wise. The GR brakes were good with original Mitsi pads, I tried Mintex 1152s for a while, they wore out in no time and had tonnes of dust so now I'm on standard pads but they get glazed after about roughly 5000 ks.
Where did you pick them up and what sort of money did it cost in total?

Got them off Steelroe, he happened to have a good (almost new) set of std gpx discs too, so paid €300 for calipers & discs. Can't remember what the pads were, got Redstuff pads.

Should be able to get a set of calipers easy enough off the usual suspects I'd imagine, Steelroe, Ricerocket, ebay breakers etc.

That's a pretty good price alright. Will give them a bell soon. It's on that never ending 'to do' list!
