Insurance woes

Postby Dean » Mon Dec 08, 2003 6:07 pm

I am now completely convinced that the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing in insurance companies.

Conversation goes as follows

Them: "Make and model of the car please sir"

Me: "Mitsubishi FTO GS 1800cc"

Them: "Thats the 2000cc Mivec is it"

Me: "No the 1.8 litre GS"

Them: "There is no such thing as a GS model, only GR and GP"

Me: "Yes there is...I own one."

Them: "Sorry sir we dont have that listed only GR and GP"

I was under the impression there is no GP, it is a GPX??

If it continues this way and it turns out I am paying for a 2.0 litre insurance wise, I am damn well going to buy a 2.0.
Insurance company CEO's should all be dragged out in from of a wall and shot.
The severe "dont care" attitude in this country is driving me insane.
They put speed cameras on safe roads and ignore dangerous black spots, all the while playing these ads saying slow down boys, and sponsored by the IIF, all the while this is actually making no difference to road safety.
People rarely crash on dual carriageways! its country roads, tight corners and unlit streets!!!
And the irish government even gets money from the insurance companies!! What is the deal with this??, this just screams "you scratch my back and Ill scratch yours"
I am almost tempted to just feck it all and go home.
We crash more than you guys (aussies) but we are not getting burned for it.
THe Irish goverment needs some severe looking into. I would say its the laughing stock of Europe.

I appreciate your frustration Dean, we all go through these issues with insurance companies at some stage or othjer. FYI, there is a GP, its simlar to the GPX apart from the fact that it came with steel rims and leather bits in the interior, strange I know.

I'd be interested to know the insurance company concerned, if you don't want to publicise it, mail me offlist. I've said this a few times before, but a lot of companies don't differenciate between the GS and the V6 models in terms of insurance cost, thats the reason I changed from a GS to a GPX, my policy remained unaffected even though I made sure to explain the difference between both models.

Just keep at them mate, My girlfriend brought in a nearly new integra type R from Japan, Which needless to say the insurance company didnt have on their computer. She had a few problems as they wouldnt quote the car without the log book being posted to them so she had a 30k car lying around which wasnt insured for theft. But after a few phone calls she convinced them to insure it as a 1.8 and put in the notes that it was a 2l DC5.

They also insured the car by its chassis number as it didnt have a number plate at this stage.

It all worked out Ok in the end

Dont give up it'll be worth it !!! :D

Have a look on www.ifsra.ie - they have just published a survey about car insurance in Ireland. They looked for quotes from insurance companies for various scenarios. Worth a look.
