Help with fitting some parts

Postby soc » Wed Mar 03, 2004 1:39 pm

I decided to "try" and improve the already great handling on my GR and I just took delivery of some adj camber bolts , positive castor bushes (front bottom arm, rear bush), poly front arb bushes, pagid pads (mine are on way out) & steeing rack gaitors (mine are torn). Strut braces to follow......

Anyway now all I need is some help/advice fitting this stuff. The pads I can probably do (plenty of guides on the web but any advice is welcome), the arb's I'll get a garage to do cause I've heard it is a real pain (probably Paul Nolan) BUT I'm not sure about the, camber bolts, castor bushes and steering rack gaitors.

I'm sure the gaitors are straight forward enough (aren't they??). So what about the camber bolts and castor bushes?? Are these straight forward. Do you think I could go to a tyre place(with laser 4-wheel alignment) and get them to do the camber bolts?

So if anyone has any recommendations about where best to get the adj camber bolts fitted please shout.

Cheers
Shane

Ive camber bolts on mine, I had terrible wear on the edge of the tyre and that rectified it, I got advance to do it with the 4 wheel alignment machine. I would imagine it to be very hard to line up the wheels propely without it

Did you fit the bolts first and then go to Advance or did you get them to fit the bolts for you?

What did you set the front camber to - I want it at -1 degree. When I added negative camber to the GS it really made the turn in sharp although I'm sure the strut braces helped that too.

ARB busehes and pads are handy, check out the how to's on www.funky-fto.co.uk

A quick search of the web should help you with the other bits, e.g. check out this PDF which describes how to change camber bolts.
Note: its spelled gaiter rather than gaitor (handy to know iif you're using a search engine to loook for info).

I remember seeing some discussion on smartgroups (too busy to look right now) about how the front arb bushes are a pain to do.... and funky-fto description suggests the same (multiple mentions of swear box:))
