95 GPX manual for sale

For sale ...
95 manual GPX Black

Hi guys,

Due to an expanding family I was recently forced to buy a 4 door family saloon to better cope with the complexity of transporting a toddler around the place

So I have to say goodbye to a car which saw me through my mid twenties when it got me lots of attention from the ladies, was there when I finally tied the knot, supported me as my first born was conceived ( don't worry, not literally ), raced me to the hospital to let me watch the nail in it's coffin being born. Eight and a half years of joyfull ownership has come to an end.

Unfortunately, due to a very busy few years, the FTO has been slightly neglected, and needs a bit of TLC, it has also carried me from Wicklow to Dublin thousands of times at this stage, watched all the road improvements first hand, resulting in an ODO reading of 372419KM

I have listed the current issues with the car below ...

Engine oil leak - been there for a while, coming from a seal between the front cam box and the head
Allow wheels are quite corroded and need recoating or replacing
Knocking from suspension, not sure what this is, probably those dame bushes
Air con not working, probably just needs gassing up
Front radiator grill pushed back ( by a robin !! )
Central locking keyfob missing
Paint work is a bit dull with plenty of stone chips at front of car
Center console is cracked around stereo, possible repairable
Needs full service, including timing belt ( have a timing belt )

On the plus side
Stainless steal exhaust ( from cat back )
Engine runs perfectly, starts first turn everytime, no loss in power despite mileage
No damage to body panels
Reconditioned alternator fitted
Reconditioned starter fitted
Remote started fitted
Original flare still in car, never be used
Been through 3 NCT's, and passed with a few minor problems
NCT is up next January

Ideally I would like this car to go to someone you will fix it up and enjoy it for many more years, but it would also suite someone you wants a car for breaking ...

Here is some more good news, because of the problems with the car and the very high mileage, I will take €1500 ono for it.

I'll try to get some pics soon to stick up here ...

Wow - a very long standing owner with massive mileage (the highest I've heard of on here).

All this time and only your first post on here - you obviously have better things to be doing with your time than all of us

Just buy her indoors the 4 door family saloon and keep your machine for yourself - think of the money you'll be saving (always a good bargaining phrase in these difficult times of recession) !!

Would be a good project car if mechanically sound...How much more miles could a person really expect to get out of it though? An engine rebuild is right around the corner I would say! You must have kept it pretty well however to get such a serious amount of mileage on it though!

Sorry you have to sell. Good luck with it!

Wow, impressive - this proves that the FTOs V6 engine is a resilient piece of kit. Good luck with the sale.

I have to say I am constantly amazed at how well the engine runs after such high mileage. I have been a stickler for changing the oil regularly over the years though, and I only use Mobil 1 0W40 ( expensive !! ).
Apart from a bit of tappet noise, the engine is still smooth, rev happy and raring to go, and I would say will run for another 300000km no problem.
This car has been fantasticly reliable over the years, only breaking down once with the starter motor, and even then I just push started it. The alternator gave up once aswell but I was still able to drive about 100km home on the battery alone !! ( nearly didn't make it though ) !!

BTY it's not quite my first post, I did join this forum at the very start, but forgot my username and password and never got round to getting back up here, have been reading posts without loging in though

Sounds like it would make a good project car - esp if someone was considering a VR4/EVO transplant and/or a track car.

Nice to see the FTO can take the mileage. I sold my last one with 100K miles on the clock and it felt better than my first FTO which had 20K miles on the clock (back in 99). As suspected if properly serviced the FTO will run and run and without much (if any) power loss.

Project car

Postby guju121 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:04 pm

I agree, would make a perfect project car, cheap enough to not worry about damaging it.
That's something I was thinging of doing with it but just don't have time, shame ...

Ah man - that's a great price - and I love the fact that you're not afraid to mention the niggles with the car..

Do you by chance have a picture of her?
