Was tipping along in 5th the Galway road on Saturday and started to lose power, tried to drop to 4th but couldn't select it.

Pulled over to see what was wrong and couldn't select any gear except from 2nd, bit of a "whining" noise when I tried to move her.

Anyone any ideas where the problem lies?
I'm hoping it's not the box!

She's a manual, 97 GX

Clutch. Or has one of the cables/cable mounting come apart

Hopefully you're right Rory, I haven't got the chance to have a look at her since I towed her back home.

I didn't get a smell of clutch burning though.

Will have a look later on, where would I look for snapped cables/ mountings?
