WHAT FUEL TO USE

Postby d_andrews78 » Fri Oct 06, 2006 8:22 pm

Hi All,
Just got my self a 1995 GS 1.8 Last week, and have been running it on Super unleaded, just wondered if I can run it on normal unleaded.
Not being Cheap but just checking.

Cheers

Welcome fella!

Firstly, lucky you being able to get SUL up in Norn Iron!

You'll be fine running a GS on standard 95RON fuel, if the knock sensor picks up on detonation the ECU will automatically retard the timing in order to protect the engine. We're all running GRs and GPXs on 95RON without any noticable side effects (apart from a very slight drop in power).
The 4-cylinder GS should experience less detonation than the V6 engined FTOs, that said, it would be my personal choice to run it on 97.

If I'm not mistaken, the 6A12 V6's were designed to run on 98RON while 97RON was recommended for the 4G93 4-cylinders.

welcome to the board mate. As CJ has already stated, SUL would be a preferable choice but tbh its not worth the money to use SUL. I use 95RON on my GPX with no apparent ill effects. Your prob talking less than 5 bhp loss altho im sure a more knowledgeable bod will confirm.

SUL is only necessary with turboed engines imo

SUL must cost a fortune up there.
