7 hour cleaning session

Postby CJ » Mon Mar 20, 2006 9:52 am

I went all out on Saturday and got stuck into the paintwork big time, all in, it was a 7 hour job but the results were well worth it, the finish is as bright and shiny as its ever been and feels like glass to touch (thanks to the claybar). I purchased myself a random orbitol polisher from the States recently (Porter Cable - one of the best on the market), it makes for easy and very effective polishing:

The sequence of events went like this:

    Rinse
    Wash
    Rinse
    Dry
    Claybar
    Rinse
    Wash
    Rinse
    Dry
    Polish
    Buff
    Seal
    Buff
    Wax
    Buff

The neighbours must think I'm a lunatic :smt101

I did indeed! Thanks to the carnuba wax, the paintwork now repels water and muck much better and as a result will be easier to clean, the same mirror finish is underneath albeit covered up!

The clay bars are great, give a great base for buildig up a great shine, carnuba wax is brill too but you nearly crash your car because its so exciting to watch the water beading and rooling of your bonnett while you build up speed instead of watching the road, how much did the porter cable cost ? mind you the fto is a great car to polish and shine, i used to polish my one every week ! but my next car i polished once and that was over 1.5 years ago  couldnt be bothered

Agreed, the claybar is magic, the paintwork is silky smooth after using it, you'd be surprised at the amount of ground in dirt and tar that ends up on the clay afterwards.

The Porter Cable ended up costing me about €130 shipped from the US which was a good price, note that I already had a 110V transformer which would need to operate the unit over here. Read all about it here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-pc7424.html

I've seen them (Meguiars) in Halfords before, I think they were looking for €30+ for the kit. Stevie G (on the forum) sells 'em cheaper, you could probably pick one up cheap on ebay as well...

Just to add to that, make sure its soapy water, this will help lubricate things up nicely :)

I can supply the PC along with Clay and the full range of Poorboys Detailing products - yep the Megs clay bars are small only 45g I supply 130g bars  A GB recently ran on FTOOC for £10 + p&P if you can get ten+ buyer together more than happy to run over here too...

Whats the deal with GB's Traders etc?

Sounds like you got the routine of to a t!

Any pics?

Detailing Sporay which comes with it lifts dirt ideal if your car is not dirty enough to warrant washing spray on wipe of with a soft MF towel

Poorboys Super Slick & suds Shampoo is ideal for usin with clay as its consistancy is very luby - oh err!

The fundementals of a shiny car is in your prep work no point waxing a dirty car even new cars need to be clayed clay removes contaimenants which polishes don't

Drop me a PM if there is anything you need or any advise

:D
