Whoa, hold off on the defensiveness fella! You'll find that 6x9s fill the soundscope lower down the range and appear to 'sound' better, standard mid range door speakers often lack high end punch, I'd recommend a decent set of componants with tweeters and seperate crossovers. In my experience, changing speakers may offer a crisper sound over stock but the change in sound quality is often negligable due to the lack of power in the head units amp. As Ditrylopez said, check the RMS output per channel of your head unit and match the speakers accordingly in an effort to reduce distortion @ high volume. I've a 4 channel Rockford Fosgate amp driving all 6 speakers (+ a seperate amp for the sub), the difference in quality over using the head unit amp (25W RMS per channel) is significant.
Note that most head units specify per channel output as PMPO as opposed to RMS - divide the PMPO figure by 2 in order to determine RMS output.
