Pimp Tint

Postby Muad_dib77 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 3:19 pm

Hiya,

Does anybody know how much it is to get all windows tinted black (black-black as night black)?
Also looking for a good place in Blanch/Ashbourne/Duleek/Donore/Drogheda/Navan Area that might do it.

Not keen on "Shades" as they always seem to add their logo to the rear-window.

Did see some bloke racing around drogheda in a "mobile tinting" van but I haven't been able to locate a phone number. :-(

Shades usually put the logo on the outside, you can remove it with a blade or something similar.

I have fairly darkly tinted windows on the back and the rear 1/4 windows.
It really reduces visability - I wouldn't like to do the side windows - you would also need to be aware of the legality of how dark you can go.

Thing is I'm installing a fairly expensive dvd-touch screen thing - and sadly it doesn't have a detachable front. So I'm wanting to make it very difficult to be casual about having a look at it.

found a place close to where I work..

Asked for quote..hopefully they'll be quick.

Wasn't aware that there was a legal issue in Ireland when it came to tinting windows.

Those guys want 240euros for the tint job.

Is that the Norm?

you can get tint stuff now that makes smashing the window a lot more difficult, granted a good thief would be able to get into the car either way, but it'd cut out the smash and grab scum bags!

For the 3 rears and passenger windows, that sounds decent enough to me.

Its a funny kind of law tbh - a few guys I know have been stopped by the gardai and told to loose the tints - others have been let off because the tint was not dark enough to affect visability.

In the UK - I think your tint must let in 75% light - but theres no such law here.

The guards seem most likely to put tints under the following law:

Law
Contrary to Article 34(2)(b) of the Road Traffic Act ( Construction, equipment and Use of vehicles) Regulations 1963 as amended (Made under the Road Traffic Act 1961 as amended by Section 6 Road Traffic Act 1968) and Section 102 Road Traffic Act 1961 (as amended by Section 2 Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 1984.

24. (1) Where a windscreen is fitted to a vehicle, it shall be of a stable substance, fully transparent so that objects are not seen distorted through it, and not likely if fractured to produce fragments capable of causing severe cuts.

So - I guess you could argue the point with him and get let off (or arrested  ).

Windscreen = any window on car?

Wasn't going to get the actual windscreen tinted - that would be suicide especially with the weak lights on the fto.

Sorry - there is a similar law that covers all windows - I'll have a look for it later. Needless to say don't tint your windscreen.

have not looked into suspension was on the car when i bought it. also running car on 45s which fill the arches up more
they rub occasionally only when on full lock but give a bit of protection to the wheels from these harsh wicklow roads....

I'm pretty sure that the springs on chucks car are AVO's, I seem to remember the previous owner (Kevin) mentioning it to me a few years back. As it happens, I'm running the same springs with a 45 profile tyre - they fill out the arches nicely.

Tints

Postby RussMan » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:55 am

I really agree with you myfto, the b;ack out rear window can be such a joke at times. I can't see a thing unless its full daylight and sunny so 2 days this year i've made use of my rear view mirrors!! I think i'll get rid and get a re-tint in a lighter shade!

Was having a look at the 'used car roadshow' on men&motors last night (terrible program but thats another discussion), they were talking to guys in the UK somewhere tinting windows. The mentioned that some of the cheaper stuff will shrink after a while, which can't be good...

For a Range Rover they were talking about £350 for tinting it all round.
