Well finally picked the car up at last. Flew over to Newcastle to meet the guy who imported it from Japan for me. I could not get the grin off my face all the way back to Dublin , even had the police and customs at Stranraer admiring it.
Let me say, what a great bloke. Gave all the help in the world to me during the import process, fully serviced the car on arrival, fitted a cat 1 alarm/imob, full valet, all included in the price. I can recommend him to anyone if their thinking of getting a new P & J in the future and it works out cheaper bringing it in through the UK, I'm sure of it.
She's a 95 GPX, only 36,000 miles on the clock in steel silver. There is a link below for some pics.

what auction grade was it?

It should do as the VAT will be paid in the first EU country in lands in and their VAT rate is lower than ours.
(Theres is 17.5% whereas ours in 21% )

So if you don't mind sharing - what did it cost all in at the end of the day and did you save money by doing it this way ?

Some comments :
- get it dropped, you look like you're on stilts there
- change your side repeaters to clear for the final clean looks that your spoilers deserve

It looks extremely clean, its difficult to get a 95 car in such good condition these days. Agreed with Kace, drop it and change the side repeaters, if you've any cash left over, get some 17's on there and it will look the part.
Is it a manual or tip btw?

Wow, you got a gem there! My '95 is in good nick too but didn't come with a spoiler or modified front bumper Have to do it all myself in time...

Its a 95' and its a Mivec tip.... Maybe a manual next time.......
It was an auction grade 4 and as said I used a guy in Newcastle to bring it in for me. I can reccomend him.

As was said above the VAT is less in the UK. It was a gamble on the exchange rate but overall the cost to me in Euro was €5,200 plus the VRT which is €600, all in all €5,800, and that included the service, alarm all charges/duties etc. etc. Maybe a bit more than a similar age here but in far better condition than anything I've seen from that year and with the low milage 36,000

Maybe so but the VAT difference will have little influence on the overall price. Even if you take the total figure (VAT would be charged on the C&F/CIF price, which is of course lower than the total price) of €5200 the difference in VAT is 3.5%. This would amount €182. in other words very little. Do the UK also charge 10% imprt duty?

No, but flight to Newcastle was €16 on Ryanair(inc taxes) and the ferry back was €85. went over and back in the one day so no accomodation needed. All in all a small price to pay for this car IMO anyway.

just wondering cos so far in my life i dont think ive ever seen a non-crash repaired fto come off those auctions... mine included

thats definately a sweet price aswell for that car, i went down the uk route aswell but i paid (after VRT & shipping) €9000 for a 1997 manual gpx in need of a service, so i didnt really save anything at all...

a lot of extra choice though.
