Postby bogtan » Sat Sep 17, 2005 1:25 am

Just wondering if anyone could give a nice detailed guide on how to change engine oil just like the auto oil guide. Im using an ELF fully synthetic 5-30 if anyone has any suggestions against that oil id be glad to hear it before i put it in.

Hey bogfan,

welcome to fto-ireland!

For changing the engine oil, its pretty straight forward... run the engine for a little bit to warm up the oil before you start. It'll make it drain out better. You can just open up the bolt at the bottom of the sump and it'll drain out.

Its recommended to replace the drain bolt/plug, but I didn't and it was fine. Your mileage may vary!

You'll want to change the oil filter (same as Mitsi Colt/Galant oil filter I think but check that to be sure), so get one of those too if you haven't already.

I'd recommend you run some Forte top end treatment in the engine, you can get it from camskill.co.uk.

Other than that... I'm using Shell Helix 10/40, semi synthetic, as thats
was what I had handy. That or 5/50 (fully synthetic) seem to be the way to go. Not sure about brands outside off Shell Helix.
