Just on the subject of Tyres - check out the performance tyre test on this weeks Autocar - Goodyear F1 wins again. Good all-round tyre. Pirelli P Zero and Bridgestone S03 have also fared well in recent tyre tests I have seen.

Unusual situation with UK - Ireland tyre prices. Goodyear F1 seems to be more expensive than Pirelli P Zero and Bridgestone S03 in UK yet is a far cheaper tyre than either in Ireland - so it seems to make even more sense on this side on the pond.

If you're just getting 2 tyres then better off to stick to whats already on the car - Toyo proxes are a v good choice on an FTO in any case.

eagles would more or less be the same, the toyo obviously don;t have a great wear on them, 11 months and around say 18000 miles! not the best in my opinion!

Wow, 18000 miles in 11 months - you must do some amount of driving. I had a set of Toyo's on my old GS for about 10 months and they were still nearly perfect - do I sense a heavy right foot or am I just a complete wuss :-)

yeah a lot of mileage alright, newbridge to crumlin everyday and the odd heavy foot but nothing too major, i am right in thinking that this is not a great return on tyres!

Sounds about right to me - I'm not doing so much mileage these days - but I had done 35K miles a year over the past 3 years in the Racing Puma and the FTO GR Tip and I went through 2 sets of Eagle F1's and 2 sets of Pirelli P Zero Neros, 2 sets of Pirelli P7000's and a set of Bridgestones. Averages out at about a set every 16-18K miles. I tend to swap the tyres over every time I do an alignment check hence they wear evenly and I replace them a set at a time rather than 1 or 2 at a time. I've had no punctures at all over the past few years and I guess this helps as you don't end up with one good tyre and 3 bald ones.

If you're buying performance tyres - they will have a softer compound - - if you want a balance then go with something like Bridgestone RE720's or similar.

So I'm deffo a wuss then - I've always gotten about 22-25K miles out of my tyres (even when I had the 205 gti)..... I doubt I'll make those figures with the golf though - it's wheelspin city when I turn the traction control off. Can't image what it would be like with 50bhp and 60lb/ft torque extra

Got 2 Dunlop S3000s on the front wheels on my GR, seem good enough although I don't have them long so can't vouch for their longevity.

Saw someone mentione www.eiretyres.com, and www.bantrytyres.com tend to be good enough pricewise in my experience.

No personal experience with these tyres but they are a v good quality performance tyre. You won't be disappointed with them - thats for sure.
Should be in a similar ballpark performance and price wise to the F1 Eagles - what price have you been quoted for these as a matter of interest :?:

well the eagle F1s were coming in at mad money, they were 210 or something like that, and Eire Tyres were quoting 177 or something but i;d still have to get them fitted! the ZZ3' come in at 180 fitted and he's doing the bushes for me as well! i'll get the car aligned and should come in around 400 or so for the lot! Dave recommended them as being a good tyre so i wanted to give someting different a shot so why not!

 Surprised at the Eagle F1 money - but then again you do have 18's on your car. I paid €145 per tyre last year for F1's - 215/40 on 17's.

I would go with the ZZ3's at that money - It would be interesting to see how you find them. Not too dissimilar to the thread pattern on the toyo's either. I'd say the wear rate will be quite similar to the Toyos as well - the ZZ3's are pretty sticky - hence softer compound = more wear.

yeah that's what Dave was saying he said the thread is very similar to the Toyo and Eagles, but i'm running on 225/40/18's, little bit more rubber but you pay for what you get these days!
might be a good idea to stick a poll up and get peoples opinions on the best tyres they've used.

Don't camskill recommend the Avons ? You see a lot of the UK boys are running them these days.

18's are pretty expensive by the sounds of things..... I can see my 18" RS4's (or BBS CH's) slowly slipping away
