You might have to replace the dials or else it could just be a loose connection at the back of the dials? Have you taken them out and had a look?

I'd imagine it would fail on that, though they hopefully wont be driving the car into the centre from the car park at enough to register on the speedo. Could be the limiter that is broken, if its in mph shes been converted and prob delimited at the same time. You can buy a new limiter from camskill. I'd check the connections first though to be sure.

I was told that the speedometer doesn't need to work for the MOT. Never did an MOT though so can't vouch for that.

As DH said, if the dial is MPH it's likely there's a convertor in there. It's Km/h from the factory. I'd reckon that would be more likely to fail than your dials.

That said, get the speedo out (easy job, it's only a few screws) and check the contacts at the back of the unit to make sure they're clean.

Are they the original or aftermarket dials?

As per MfFTO, if theres aftermarket dials in place, improper fitting can screw up the readings.

My guess is that a dodgy KPH - MPH convertor is causing the problem.

hi i just tried this what i found on here in a fourm tested the pin located and it is reading 7volt,so would that be ok so its not the ifs

How to check if IFS is u/s.......using a multimeter....

1. Remove clock console to reveal 2 multi-pin plugs. Start
engine.
2. Looking at the left plug (C05) locate pin 18 (bottom row 5
in from left-white wire)
3. Set multimeter to read more than 5V. Put +ve probe to this
pin and -ve probe to earth. (Use bolt in centre of console
recess for convenience)
4. If multimeter does not read 5V then the problem is IFS or
wire from IFS to dial console....

I've never had one, but doesn't the convertor sometimes connect in at the speed sensor itself, rather than at the dash?
