Restoring Interior Fascia / Consoles

Postby Hercules Q. Einstein » Sat Jul 07, 2007 5:30 pm

I've stripped out all of the interior consoles, armrest, gearstick / radio surround, door handles, etc...
I'm going to sand them, prime and re-paint them.
Has anyone done this before?
Can anyone recommend any particular shops / products?

Get some wet and dry sandpaper (1200 should do) and rough up the plastic you wish to paint, get some plastic primer (available in Halfords) and apply 2 coats or so. Rough up the pimed surface slightly with wet and dry and then apply 4-5 coats of your selected spray paint. Let it dry and then apply 3-4 coats of clear laquer to toughen up the surrface. Let the whole lot dry overnight and then reinstall. Heres a pic of my interior job:

Cheers mate. Your interior looks class.
My next question is where can you get the leather seat covers
with the matching upholstery for the doors?

Try RicerocketUK - he was selling leatherette versions not that long ago.

I've sanded and primed and it's going well.
RE the actual paint. I went to a local shop and they were selling
Enamel spray paint.
Would this do the job or is there a particular type of paint I need?

Also, regarding the main centre console that contains the armrest, cup holder.
Can anything be done to restore this, mine has quite a few scuff marks.
It doesn't look like the sort of plastic that you could paint.
