Motorbikes

Postby soc » Tue May 23, 2006 1:24 pm

3 weeks into the new job and I'm thinking of buying a motorbike for the commute (no parking in the IFSC). I've been on bikes before (limited) but would only have a provisional licence so would be restricted to bikes that are 25kw or less.

Ideally I'm looking for something beefy, 400cc to 600cc, but that is restricted to 25kw and along the lines of a sports bike or a muscle/street bike (i.e. bandit). Anyone got any recommendations or know of any decent bikes which can be bought restricted for a learner?

Btw, I know you can restrict all bikes but the insurance companies would prefer if it had the option of being restricted from the factory (for example the new suzuki gsr 600)

And I'm only thinking of spending between 3k and 5k....

will do mate - I'm leaning towards a honda hornet 250cc but it's a jap import only. Looks really cool and supposed to be fast for a 33bhp restricted bike. Also it has a lot of big bike bits like a 180 back tyre and fireblade supsension components.

Otherwise I'll look at a 600cc hornet - same deal just a bigger engine.

You should look at the Kawazaki zx 636, beauttiful bike and comes factory restricted and is only a throtle stop to derestrict it .It has super handling and performance areal race position. The other is the bandit 600 great bike an all rounder, woudln't have the same top end as the quaker but great bike none the less and no probs derestrict if you want to. I think there was talks this year of bringing out a 636 too? I had an YZF R1 and got run over by a Boy racer in a civic, he tried over taking me on a bend, he totaled me an my bike. Don't really know why he wated to race me considering it's a 0-60 in about 2.6 seconds, anyway that's another story.

Funny thing is that it was the driving of the FTO that she doesn't like - too uncomfortable and while she doesn't like bikes I'd have more chance of convincing her seeing as she'd never have to get on it.... unfortunately it's a lot easier to have a bike and a car rather than having 2 cars...

Yes defo bike and car much easier to manage, will be getting another one myself soon. Nothing like it on a sunny day or getting in through the traffic quicker. you can leave later in the mornings, as I find that extra five minutes in bed great
