Cat bypass

Postby CJ » Sat Oct 29, 2005 4:46 pm

I've been driving around with the cat in place over the past week and the car has been noticably slower at higher speeds, the fact that is was raining this morning didn't put me off getting the bypass back in there! For those of you who have never seen a bypass pipe in place, here it is:

The lambda sensor shaft is a bit bent, it must have got a smack at some stage, that said, recorded emmisions were pretty low at the last NCT so its obviously working fine.

Is that not the cat temperture gauge thingy in the pic thats bent, when i changed over to a cat bypass I had a lot of trouble removing it ended up cutting the wires, have now got a bolt in the bypass instead which causes no probs except light on dash is alwas on, looking into it found this post on FTOuk (The probe on the CAT isn't a Lambda sensor its just a temp sensor which
warns if the CAT is too hot.
Some CAT replacement pipes have a threaded hole for it to go back into or if not you can remove it, but you will need to put a 100ohm resistor across the connector under the drivers seat to stop the dash light staying on.) so will be doing this shortly

Ya, its the lamba sensor before the cat (i.e. engine side) and the temp on or just after the cat. Read a bit about that when changing my downpipes.

You're both right lads, I always seem to mix up the temp sensor and the lambda sensor (aka oxygen sensor).

Right so just to make it clear CJs pic is showing temp sensor . Which in the great scheme of things is not important on the FTO..
