Tinting

Anybody here with any experience in tinting?

I'm looking for ideas of how the get the rearwindow looking nice both the break light and the rear wiper will be in the way. How would I best go about "tinting around" these?

I had mine done professionally a few weeks ago. total cost €220. sounds a lot but the guy did a brilliant job, took him nearly 3 hours (back screen, side glass front and back) He had a real job with the back screen, i wouldn't try it myself after watchuing him...! i'll give you his number if you're interested

PS mines a 97 GX white. looks really good with the black tint

Any Idea what he might charge to do the rear on it's own?
Was hoping to take a stab at it myself, but it looks to be well tricky..Sides I can handle - not much can go wrong there..

Uh eh...Is he Carlow Based?
I'm just thinking it might be a bit of a trek...

DO NOT TRY TO TINT YOURSELF!

Especially on the rear screen, I got both mine done professionally with 2 different companies and each time the rear screen caused serious problems. Its the design of the window it has a `double curve` from top to bottom and also from left to right. Its very hard to shape and soften the tint to fit nicely.

There is a good company in Dublin based in Blancerstown I think called Shades very good workshop and service, not the cheapest but work is second to none. And while there working on the car you can head over to the shops and Halfords which opened there a while back )

I can concur, they did a good job of tinting the windows in my old FTO, they're based in Rosemount Business Park (same one as DTAS).

When I intially posted this thread I had already ordered the rolls of tint - and as they had already shipped I was unable to cancel the order.

I figured I might as well have a go at it.

I've spent about 2 hours doing the driverside window - and guess what I'm not happy with the result..there are no creases anymore - no bubbles ..but 40% Tint just isn't dark enough.

I definately wouldn't recommend that anybody try this themselves it is HELL! Never again. Even if you get the tint for free it is just not worth the pain and torment of trying to get a flat surface to sit smooth on a curve. It's a terrible terrible project.

It may be easier if one was to take the windows off the doors and perform the process away from the cold and the wind. However I'd predict it to be a frustrating and generally painful project even under optimal conditions.

Oh well ..atleast I did something constructive with my sunday morning.

Was actually expecting atleast one "I told you so..".. Figured there was nothing lost in giving it at go now that I had the gear..

..sadly I lack tinting talent...
