Starter Motor or Immobilser

Postby Kace » Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:41 pm

Started the car this morning no problem. Installed the front seat and then went to start it again by first switching off the immobiliser and then turning the ignition key.......nothing.

Waited for immobiliser to engage again after 20 seconds, turned it off again then tried ignition again......nothing - dead as a door-nail.

I am assuming I have some sort of short with the immobiliser that is preventing it from engaging the ignition.

Only other thing it could be is starter motor completely packed in - but if your starter motor goes, does the car appear to be completely dead when you try to start it or will it generally still try and turn over ?

Now - I have a Nasar alarm - anyone know any installers for these ? or any reputable callout car-alarm service that could help me today or over the weekend ?

I'm housebound and we were all set to head off on a wee trip :(

Hmmmm

Tried it another 10 times and eventually - for no apparent reason - it fired perfectly and started. There must be some very sensitive wire loose in the immobiliser circuit somewhere.

False alarm for now - thankfully

Still interested to hear what the symptom is when the starter motor packs it in though - anyone ?
