Blown Exhaust front pipe....apparently

Postby briencrean » Thu Feb 12, 2009 4:16 pm

I failed the NCT a couple of weeks ago on CO2 emissions (Lambda was fine) so I decided to get my Exhaust system checked out by Advance Pitstop as I thought it sounded like I had a hole.

They told me that my frontpipe is blown. They said that they think the part of the exhaust behind one of the flexiparts is at fault (From what they were saying it seems like they mean the small flexipart nearest to the downpipe from the manifold).

They then priced a replacement front part from Mitsubishi for 1,050EUR plus 195EUR for 2/3 hours labour!!!!!(For fitting 6 bolts and a few gaskets!)

This is ridiculous, how can they get away with this?

I have since found much better priced front pipes on Camskill but I just cant get over the price Mitsubishi wanted?!?

Anyone ever had an issue with the front pipe?

had the same problem, welding in a universal flexible section doesn't seem an option due to the use of a couple of different metals in the downpipes (so I was told).

I got one for my GPX from Steelroe, and I think I might have a good GR one (not 100% certain)

Connection to the header are exactly same size, but the pipe to the cat is a bigger bore, therefore connection to cat is diff.

Yeah, I seem to remember there being issues when I replaced mine :D

I would assume a full GPX system on a GR would make a small difference to power (one of the upgrades the GX has on the GR is the bigger bore exhaust system)

Point is, I'm pretty sure the OP has a GR and not a GPX.

I am seriously tempted to get a full mongoose exhaust system now ;)

At the moment I just need the front pipe so I can pass the NCT. It looks like on camskill the same front pipe is listed for a MIVEC and NON-MIVEC?

One of the lads is a metal fabricator so I might see if it is possible to weld something to stop the leakage.

Dont think the leak will cause you CO2 to be high.

Give both camskill and ricerocket a call.. if they don't have it in stock they'd be able to get them for you.

As far as I'm aware they're most commonly shipped straight from the manufacturer - it is unusual though that they don't figure on the camskill site..

Nice

I have to get some parts anyway so I think I'll give camskill a call tomorrow to see if they can get the whole exhaust.

Thanks man.

I checked out Motorsportworld, Ricerocket, Mongoose and Camskill for prices today.

I e-mailed Motorsportworld today and they said it would be almost exactly €600EUR for the full Mongoose exhaust system without the Decat including delivery to Ireland.

That was the cheapest price I could find. If you want to buy direct from mongoose its an extra €111 Euro and thats before delivery!

The same exhaust system from ricerocket is €586.34 Euros before delivery.

Camskill told me they don't stock mongoose exhausts anymore just blueflame.

I'll probably order the exhaust from Motorsportworld this week

lighter than the standard system and huge visual impact - they also sound amazing.

Very Nice! Is that your car Colm?

They dont include front pipes from what I can gather on camskill. They are the part I really need regardless for the NCT.

I'd have to get the bumper adjusted also to fit. Not sure if all of that would be even more expensive

I had never heard of Blueflame until I bought an FTO, are they a well known brand of exhaust?

That's myfeckinfto's old car (now Topcat's)

I have a set on my car too, though mine are mounted a little higher up.

Blueflame are a well known company, with strong OEM ties to the likes of Bentley, TVR and Lotus, they have a lifetime guaruntee so they can't be that bad :)
