Kinda having second thoughts about selling :)

Postby colm_mcm » Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:59 pm

Gave the FTO a good wash this evening, had a customer enthuse about what a nice car it was, which was nice
Then went to get petrol and a man in his 70's spent the 5 minutes I was inside in the shop staring at and walking around the car. I did the remote start trick from inside the shop and watched him jump!
It's moments like this that I really don't wanna sell her.

Took the opportunity of it being clean to take some new pics:

Ah yes, very sweet, dont sell. It looks too well.
Where did you get the remote start? A bit of a knight rider moment there.

I know what you mean... I have mine over 3 years now and I still look back at it in the car park at work thinking how 8) it looks.

I hear ya Colm, been tempted myself but the moment it's gone you may regret it big time. I've been looking around myself but can't decide, love/hate relationship with the damed thing! Would love a bit more performance that's the only thing. There's a lot more parts/mods available than ever before so people are taking note that it's potentially a modern classic maybe. I'm confused!

It's not easy. I'll keep it on carzone, and be unflexible on the price. If I do keep it, I'll be looking for an exact copy of your quads if that's ok. Minor tidying of the bodywork and a manual conversion would be on the cards too.

Agreed - When I changed from my last FTO I would only consider moving to an S2000, 350Z, RX7 or Evo 8. Theres very little else I would have considered moving for - the FTO is an incredible car for the money and you really have to spend the bucks if you want something with the right blend of looks/performance/reliability.

When I changed from my original FTO I went with a Racing Puma and then a Cougar - spent big bucks on both and ended up going back to another FTO cause I realised that there was no advantage to spending 30K + on a car with similar or worse performance and looks.

Of course your situation is likely to be different as you are looking for a more "Classic /Retro/Old School" replacement - but its just my toupence worth.

It came with the car! The guy that sold it to me said the system cost him over a grand. Dunno how true that is though.

Sounds right, the remote start option cost me 500 quid as an option when I had the Clifford installed in the Rex. Is it worth it? Probably not....

Prob not but I wouldnt say no to it. Its just a pure toy, or handy for getaway cars maybe. I can see how it works for automatics, cause the gear cant be in drive when the engine is stopped, but what if you're one of those people, like me when I ever drive manuals, that you put it into 1st gear when you stop, when you remote start does she kick forward and stall? Cause then it would look pretty stupid!

IMO, remote start is only really of use in cars with a turbo charger - if you want your engine to last you should drive off boost until the oil gets up to temperature. This can take up to 15 mins depending on driving conditions - the remote start gives you a head start.

New owner collecting on Monday. Shane compared selling his FTO to breaking up with a girlfriend when he sold his.
Trying to get in as much action as I can before the deed is done! will prob head to the 0-60 meet this weekend, and then that's it for me and my car :(
