Electrics I think

Postby chuck » Fri Sep 03, 2004 10:06 pm

Hi Guys/ Girls,

Looking for some help with a problem i am having with the electric in my FTO gr. It all started about a week ago, coming to a junction, put indicators on and the car stalls out. Lights and all the electrics are ok except the ignition lights but after a couple of minutes, without doing anything the ignition light comes on again.

Was quite rare at first but now its happening every 5 minutes when driving! I have tested the altenator and battery, both seem fine, stepper motor seems to be working ok also. Have checked all fuses and wirering and stuff, seems ok. Any idea's or suggestions for a good mechanic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chuck

Chuck,

Sounds like your Alternator to me - may be the belt slipping and/or overcharging - have you looked at the voltometer when you're having these problems - does the charge rise or fall - if there is big differences to normal then I'd say you need to get the Alternator or ALt belt sorted.

BTW - good decision on putting this under the "spotted" section - before some smartarse gets there first with - "Spotted - stalled FTO in fast lane of M50"

Have you tried checking the diagnostics? If you ground pin 1 on the MUT II connector I think it is the EMU light will blink a code for you, might be of some help.

Was looking for the thread that mentioned that but don't know where it is, linked to ftooc or some other site though.

Worth a try?

will be posted in the spotted section as seen some mad man beating a fto on the M50 with a large stick

Thats sorted now chuck ;)
Give the fault diagnosis a shot, you may be surprised with the outcome.
If nothing useful comes out of it, then get the car down to an autoelectrician, its easier than pulling your hair out!
