New tyres

They're 7.5"

Ordered them from Terry - simply asked for the ones to fit my FTO...afaik it's 5-114.3...

would I be able to fit wider tires than 215s?

If only it was possible for me to see the difference between 35 and 40 profiles.. I'm really not keen on Rubber at all.. (now now - no Rude jokes IP!)..

I was looking at Daves pictures - and there's one titled exhaust - the profile depicted there doesn't look too bad..

Offset Muad...Offset - thats the PCD measurement.
Should be on the inside on the rim - probably somewhere between 32 to 38.

May give measurment as follows - 18 x 7.5 et 34 114.3 x 5

A 225 tyre would just about be ok on a 7.5 rim - 215 would be more suitable though IMO. I run a 215 tyre on an 8" rim but its probably slightly stretched.

Its not too bad I guess - should be circa 35 though - your tyres will be 7 mm closer to the archliner than on a 35 offset - would increase the chances of rubbing plus they sit that much further in which won't look as good and may show unusual tyre wear and handling issues such as tramlining - on the other hand you may not notice anything as I'm sure the vast majority of people (& dealers) who stick aftermarket alloys on their car don't think about piddly issues such as how the car will handle.

If it was me - I'd be thinking of adding a 7mm spacer - it'll look better and will likely handle better as well - having had the right offset in the 1st place would obviously have been the better option to begin with - I'm not a big fan of spacers but in this case its better than leaving them as is.

While we're at it what is the bore of the new rim?

You're asking these questions just to freak me out about how little I know about wheels aren't you??

I'm not sure what the correct bore is..(it's the hole in the middle right?!) - but I've been assured that it'll fit and it'll fit correctly..

Where would I get spacers? Would a place like DTAS have them lying about?

Oh and if somebody could please tell me what's the normal cost of a tracking? DTAS are quoting me just under 100e...

Presume the Goodyears at 185 are the F1 Eagles GSD3's and the ones at 160 at the GSD2's.

Out of that lot it has to be the GSD3's. Wouldn't bother with the others - try ringing around for a few other quotes - the joys of putting 18" rims on your car - eh!

According to Rob they're both GSD3..apparently the EU ones have a stronger sidewall...

Muad_dib77 wrote:You're asking these questions just to freak me out about how little I know about wheels aren't you??

 Nope - just making sure the wheel will sit properly on the centre hub - most aftermarket rims come with spiggot rings (sic) which will ensure the alloy sits correctly on the hub and takes the pressure off the wheels studs. I've seen guys moan about their crap handling cars after buying a set of alloys and this very often tends to be why. If the Centre bore is too small they won't actually even fit on the hub - if its too big - then you use the spiggott rings.

Muad_dib77 wrote:Where would I get spacers? Would a place like DTAS have them lying about?

Cheapo ones in Halfrauds etc - but look for some proper ones (Camskill may have) - this is another issue I'm not going to get into unless you really want to know.

Muad_dib77 wrote:Oh and if somebody could please tell me what's the normal cost of a tracking? DTAS are quoting me just under 100e...

DTAS should not be charging you for this if you are buying tyres of them - get them to throw it in.

Ahhh! - You're running a low profile 18" alloy - a "no brainer" one would think.

maud only problems i will help you out.

Postby alloywheelsinternational » Tue Feb 21, 2006 12:58 am

only got to read this thread now and wish i had of seen it earlier.
just to let you know your wheels were only available in a 42 or 45 offset i know this is slightly out on the wheels but it will not run into any major problems. yes you could fit a 7mm wheel spacer and if you want i will get you 1.
what i will say is do run 35 profile tyres.
dont worry about the roads.
yes it is a little bit harder on the road but if you run a 35 profile you are actually keeping the rolling radius of your wheel right.
the correct tyre size for your 18" wheels is a 215/35/18 if you run a 40/18 you WILL have scrubbing on the front inner arch.
i have now ent through 3 sets of 18" wheels on my car, my car has run 35/18 on all 3 sets and i drive all over the country on sh1tty roads aswell.
as far as spigots you should have got them with the wheels and inovite didnt send them look at what we went through with the wheels. (if you still require them i will record them to you)
just to let you know if you had of needed the tyres i would have fitted and balanced all 4 tyres on your car while you were up with tracking all included for £440.
that would have been an Avon zz3 (i think i quoted you on) 215/35/18 or a contenintal sport 215/35/18
if i had of read this thread before you ordered i would have definatly said for you to take a trip back up to get them fitted.
hope you get sorted with the tyres and if you need anything help give me a shout.

440gbp roughly equals 650euro..

Damn that price will be hard to beat!! May be worth me taking another spin upstate to get that sorted..Still waiting for confirmation on the final price from Rob at DTAS..

I have a feeling he's going to get back to me with something close to 800quid all inclusive.. are the Goodyears really THAT much better than the Avons lads?

Depends what price you put on performance. Are the Goodyears better? - I would say so! By €150 ? For me - Yes. For someone who doesn't drive like me - probably not.

Tell Rob in DTAS you have a cheaper quote - the company are throwing in free tracking etc - If he can get it down to under €100 of a difference then it may help swing it for you.

Either way you will have good quality rubber on your rim

Aye...I'll but a bit of pressure on him... I wont mention the fact that the other place is a fair ol drive away :-)

Found this site with loads of tests.. might be handy if somebody else was looking to get rubberised in the near future..

i can get the rial daytona the only thing is that they are only showing as a 5-108 and 5-110 fitment at the minute.
i will contact wolfrace and see what the score is with them to see if there is an available 5-114 for the mitsi.
if they are available in your fitment i will say the price will be approx £445 for 17" wheels only and £600 for wheels and tyres
and £545 for 18" wheels only and £765 for wheels and tyres.
i will confirm as soon as i get the email.

i agree it does depend on what price you put on performance i made a mistake and went for a cheaper tyre this time on my black wheels and for the first time since i have had my car i hve no controll over it at all.
i was running contental super sport on y last 2 sets of rims went for a cheaper tyre this time and i have nearly lost the car a few times. the car WILL be getting replaced with new tyres what type i dont know after reading this thread.
everyone seems to have an opinion on the tyres so i would definatly say go for a premium tyre like the Continentals Dunlops Goodyears or Kumho. is your call.

Well I presume Shane is looking for a 5 x 100 for his bus. He is in the unenviable position of driving a VAG product over the FTO. He blames this quite frequently on the missus. :smt079

touché 8)

Yea, I'd be looking at a 5x100 fitment - not sure on the offset - I'd have to check this - but probably looking for something like an 8x18 or 8.5x18 - wheel only as I'll stretch my current 225's
