Oil level

Postby Massimo » Thu Jan 25, 2007 10:18 pm

After having my car serviced i checked the oil level and it's about 10mm above the max. Car on ground level, engine at operating temperature and and after waiting a few minutes to let the oil settle on the bottom of the engine as stated in the owner's handbook. To me, that's not normal, any opinion or suggestion? Maybe i'm paranoic but i'm a little worried about this

Wouldn 't panic too much - a lot of mechanics will top it up by a litre or so to be on the safe side - in case the oil doesn't get checked before the next service as a lot of normal non petrol head peeps tend to let slide.
I very much doubt you will have any issues with that extra level of oil. Now if it had been MUCH further up the dipstick you might have had to worry.

It depends on the age of your engine and the state of your seals really. I did it by accident (checking on a slope and then over filling) and it blew my crankshaft seal. If my car is 12 years old and 110,000 miles though so its getting on a bit.
