My answer related to a straight swap without the need for ancillary extras or changes. Now that you mention it, the Colt Cyborg swap has been done IIRC, however, I would suggest it would be easier to get your hands on a manual FTO box.

In terms of the Galant, there were many types - what year, model and generation are you referring to? Do you know of situations where this has been done in the past? Proof of compatibility is needed to ensure folks don't invest in a box and then find it doesn't fit.

thanks cj i would rather a straight swap instead of swapping bits around adding to the difficulty levels and possibilitys of complications any idea what sort of money a box and clutch assembly would cost

If you use a gearbox from a different Mitsubishi the gear ratios might be different. Also if you use a gearbox from a less powerful car, the gearbox might not be able to handle the extra torque that the FTO puts out and the box could get knackered in no time.
If your gonna do a conversion just be patient. The right parts will show up in time and at the right price too. Just keep your eyes open and be on the look out.

I converted mine last year. If you have any questions about converting it feel free to ask. I found it well worth doing.

Yea, I did the job myself. It all went well apart from a wire got broke in the wiring loom. You don't have to change the engine ECU but you do have to remove the A/T ECU. It doest cost that much if your willing to do the work yourself. You'll get most of your money back when you sell the auto gearbox. It probably only cost me about 2 or 3 hundred in the end. A converion kit in the breakers costs about 700 but if you keep an eye out you'll get a kit for cheaper than that especially if your willing strip all the parts out of a scrapped car yourself.

It could easily cost you a grand, it just depends how much of the work your able to take on yourself. U'd kinda wanna be a bit mechanicly minded to do it. You need a person with you to do it and it takes about 2 days, all going well that is.

id say i could do it myself with a bit of guidance but you seem to be the man to ask when the time comes. i very rerely bring a car to a mechanic for anything other than diagnostics or something requiring the equipment i dont have or it wouldnt be cost effective to buy myself so when i'm doing it i will defo have a go myself

It does but the driveshafts might different so make sure you get them too. Different FTO's have different inner CV joints on the driveshafts. Did you find a kit?
