Adjusting idle

Postby Kace » Thu Apr 19, 2007 9:24 am

Guys - quick one. Could someone confirm how to adjust the idle on a GPX. I installed a new stepper which is great, but my idle at 'hot' temp is now down at about 1000rpm - this used to be at about 1300 rpm and I would like to adjust it upwards.

idle at hot temperature should be about 750 - 900rpm... 1300rpm seems very high except for a cold engine just started etc? anyone else concur?

Seems a tad high unless maybe you have the aircon on full blast?

Hmm - maybe it was high all along then. I've been driving the car for 7 years now and it has always idled steadily at about 1300 (hot or cold). Aircon would probably only drop it about by about 500.

If I could change this post to a 'poll' now, I would. Let us know what your cars idle at guys.... :?:

I'll check mine this evening :-)

Mine is generally a little above 1000rpm for a short while when cold and goes to about 750/800 mark once its warmed up a little. 1300 sounds pretty high to me too... I'd imagine it would mention the correct approx revs in the workshop manuals... I'll take a peek maybe.

Actually - now that I think about the needle position, it was probably more 1200 rather than 1300, but definitely not down at 1000 or less.

Found it... p.41 of the first workshop manual under Idle speed check:

Curb idle speed: 750 +/- 100 r/min

If the idle speed is outside the standard value, check the MPI components by referring to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting.
