Meter lamps not working

Postby aum108 » Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:42 am

Hi all,

I just bought a '96 FTO at auction tonight.

However, the meter lamps (tach, speed etc) do not light up when I turn the headlights on.

I have checked the fuse - I believe fuse 8 is for the meter lamps, but the fuse is fine.

Am I missing something really obvious? It seems strange that all the meter lamps could be blown.

All advice thankfully received.

I guess I should mention that this is my first FTO - I'm a complete n00b at the moment.

Cheers
David

If you can't solve the problem, just get plasma dial faces instead.

Try giving it a bit of a push - sometimes they come loose..

Come to think of it, maybe fuse 8 is just for the speedo, tach etc themselves, and the illumination lamp is on a different fuse.

For anyone who has done work customising meter lamps, can you tell me which fuse connects to the meter lamp(s)? Is there just one lamp sitting back there behind all the instruments, or are there several lamps?

I've downloaded the manuals from fto-ireland.com, but so far I'm not up to speed reading the circuit diagrams, not making total sense at the moment.

The car is not totally safe to drive at night without meter lamps working, and I'd rather not have to take it to an auto electrician (who would be likely to charge $200+ to fix).

Cheers

glow dials are the answer! cheaper than getting a sparks to look at it.
(these have their own lighting)

The interior light fuse is in the engine bay fuse box, see link below. This shares the same cuircuit as the dash meters in the VR-4 (as I found out the other day while messing with the stereo!). Worth a look. Suggest you go thru all fuses and check continuity.

Any ideas where I could buy the carbon fibre surround? I'm nearly sure I saw them for sale on the net ut I can't find the site again!

Cheers, I'll be ordering one of those soon. Ordered a set of glow dials from JDM Performance earlier this week.

Thanks again!
