Alternator

Postby Muad_dib77 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 11:35 am

Upon have a bit of a browse through eBay.. I do this a couple of times a day cause I'm that boring.. I've seen a numbe rof times that people flog Daewoo alternators as being compatible with FTOs ..

Did anybody try fitting one??!

It all seems quite unlikely to me..

I had heard similar before - would be surprised if true to be honest.
Believe the GR has a different alternator to the GPX in any case (2pin vs 4pin).

I would go the route of getting your current alternator rebuilt over buying a new one in any case.

News to me but not totally unbelievable. When I had the cyborg, my mechanic mentioned that the same 4G92 engine (modefied and without mivec) was used in some daewoo, kia or other korean rubbish (can't remember which). On the basis that mitsi are supplying designs to Korean manufacturers this may be true. Surely the FTO alternator is used on other mitsi models?

Not according to CAPS - FTO specific it would seem.

Any links to those ads Muad?

Of course I can't find any right now - typical.

I didn't check all of the shop listings though..

probably off subject now but GR is 2pin and GPX is 4pin, changed mine a few years ago, you need to pop the drive shaft out to get it out. I think it has a different mounting also. I was able to get a new one as opposed to factory recon which I would recommend as it's a bit of work to get out. Somewhere way back in this forum are the details and serial numbers etc.

I found the easiest way was to drop the exhaust down... trickiest bit is getting at the awkward back manifold bolts....

Yep the manifold is a pain alright. The drive shaft option sounds quite daunting but it's not really. Some people also undo the engine mounting bolts but I think this puts a bit too much strain on them.
