Can't believe it :(

Postby CJ » Wed Apr 12, 2006 8:37 pm

I'm in shock, I was tricking about with the car this evening getting the engine up to normal operating temperature to try and diagnose the idle problem referred to in another post, the car was idling fine so I took it out for a spin so as the ECU could relearn settings after a reset. As I was coming out of my estate onto the main road, I spotted a loader type digger working away ahead near the junction. I went around him and was waiting to turn left when bang, the digger smacks into the back of the car  :( At a minimum, I'm gonna need a new rear bumper and light, there may be other damage underneath it all that I've yet to discover. I got details off the foreman on site, I'll be speaking to him in the morning regarding insurance etc. I'm seriously p!ssed off, the main thing is that there were no injuries, I could really do without the hassle at the moment though :smt091

 That sucks! At least there'll be insurance to cover and it wont come out of your pocket. Its a good thing you didnt see him coming in the rear view or you'd be claiming for upholstrey cleaning as well :smt104

Sorry to hear that, sounds like the digger driver wasn't paying attention!

Hope it gets sorted out as quick and painless as possible!

Thanks guys.

Did he damage the nice rear spoiler you have or just the bumper?

No, on the surface, just looks like the bumper and light.

Did the driver offer up any excuse?

No, he said nothing! The guy in charge of the site did all the talking.

Its a good thing you didnt see him coming in the rear view or you'd be claiming for upholstrey cleaning as well

Thing is I did, I was thinking he was very close just before he smacked me out of it!

Sorry to hear that, sounds like the digger driver wasn't paying attention!

Bloody right he wasn't....

Hope it gets sorted out as quick and painless as possible!

Hope so, I was talking to the head foreman on the site this morning, I'll be getting a quote this afternoon and sending it in, the builders are off for a week so that will probably slow down proceedings :?

Anyways, heres the damage in all its glory, 6 inches the left and it would have been new quarter panal and all:

Man, I'm sorry to hear this - that really is sh!tty! I'd say you should get it sorted out asap - they won't want an insurance claim and will probably just pay out but that said fingers crossed it all works out with no hassles.

What a pain in the ass. Go into an expensive bodyshop and get a quote for what the parts cost new + repair and then source the parts second-hand yourself plus any other bits and bobs.mods etc you need or want done and get it sorted for the same money. I feel a set of blended DC skirts coming on.

The bodyshop still haven't got back to me with a quote, aparently Mitsi are waiting back for part availability from Japan, that and the fact that the builders are on holidays this week means that its going nowhere fast

Hope it works out as soon as possible for you. I'm sure you will, but make sure you get complete quality and are 100% happy with the results from the garage e.g colour is matched etc. Maybe have the car laser aligned while you are at it, any other little things looked at as well. My Dad's car was reversed into, nothing serious, got it fixed and paid for, days later noticed in the sunlight the colouring of the dented area was off, had to fight with the garage to do a better respray at no cost, as the Insurance company simply said the by then the file was closed and no further claims would be paid....

No update apart from the fact the the shower of bar stewards are playing hardball, but then again so am I! I hope to get an outcome during the week, they want to get the parts and they'll give me a cheque for the labour. They're trying to avoid insurance etc, all I want is get the car sorted. I've told them I'll be taking legal advise and if its not wrapped up soon, I'm gonna be breaking balls big time if they keep it up....

keep up the hard ball. they are in no position to haggle.
if this goes to the insurance people, health and safety will be over them like a rash and their insurance premiums would go through the roof.

Quick update, spoke with the foreaman today, they've gone ahead and ordered in a new bumper from Japan, its been flown over and should be here next week  They will order all of the parts and give me a cheque for the labour charges, its not the way I wanted to do it but I suppose it better than nothing :? I've been speaking to a bodyshop in Blanchardstown, they're called Motors Inc, they seem like a good bunch and would be willing to 'look after' FTO Ireland members , I'll report back on the results. Ah MAN CJ...So sorry to read about this. Good job he stopped when he hit the car - diggers are pretty good at moving/driving up onto stuff..

Pretty crap procedure with the cheque payment and all - but I suppose that as long as you get it sorted there wont be a problem.

Oh btw... you're right not to take your car to Declan Waters again... Last time they had my car they quoted me one price on the phoen and a different one when I was that .. I normally wouldn't mind but the difference was 200 quid. So'eh... They're not seeing my baby again - ever. Well pissed off with them.. And I'm certain they're pee'd off with me as well as I refused to pay the extra 200quid - haven't heard from them since though...

Keep us up to date - and let's know how you get on with this new crowd...
