irregular revs in 3rd gear

Postby Mille » Sun Mar 26, 2006 10:46 pm

From my previous thread I originally had a problem with the car idling from cold. Got this sorted with a new stepper motor.
After the new stepper was fitted it started idling at about 1500rpm while hot or cold.

Then to resolve this I played with the throttle screw and the two bolts that are on the Throttle Position Sensor and got the revs close to “normal”.

But as soon as I sort one problem another appears. Now while driving the car at about 35 mph in 3rd gear the revs "jump" and the car judders. Drop it into 2nd and its fine again. Car is a tip btw.

Any advise and what to do next ?

Cheers guys

I think it was about 10,000 km ago.

The problem seems to have stemmed from replacing the stepper motor somehow

Gearbox was perfect before I messed with the throttle screw and the 2 bolts onto the throttle position sensor unit.

i't's definetly you tps mate, i was stupid enough to do mine aswell
did you mark it before adjusting so you can go back ? my fto would stutter in 3rd when just touching the throttle, i just moved it back and it was ok, |Lesson, don't mess with adjustments unless..

A you know exactly whats wrong

B you know exactly how to adjust it

C you make reference marks BEFORE messing about, so you can return to default !

was it a new stepper or a reconditioned one? could be faulty right enough

it was a new one and this works fine

did you mark it before adjusting so you can go back ?

Nope but probably would have made alot of sence to have done.
just moved it back and it was ok
Did you get the revs down to about 800 rpm or are they still still on the high side like mine were before i went tampering with the adjustments ?

Does anybody know how to get the TPS back to its default settings ?

Heres a write up I did as I managed to get mine completely out of sync as well. Although I didn't do anything before hand so why it went out of kilter I don't know.
