There was a guy in the chinese I worked in did alarms, he was pretty cheap to. Not sure of the make of alarm but it had a little pager thing for the key ring. I could get a price off him for doing one. Nearly sure he could do remote start and all that sort of thing but it would cost more to get stuff like that. Do you want me to find out how much he'd charge?

I rang that guy (Alan), explained about the site and the possibility of a group buy the prices (discout included) are as follows:
Basic alarm €230
Pager Alarm €300
Remote Start alarm €400
Thats with the alarm supplied and fitted. The make of the alarm Alan supplies is StaleMate. How does that sound?

Would that be "SteelMate" per chance? Their top of the range retails for around €200. So, an extra €200 for fitting seems a lot, or is it just me?

It goes without saying, but: An badly fitted alarm is a nightmare, don't get an alarm you don't have faith in, or use a fitter who isn't likely to offer you comeback. The difference in cost between using an established fitter and an ameteur mightn't be big enough to matter.
Not casting aspersions, but it's easy to get cheap alarms, getting a good alarm fitted properly cheaply is a bit trickier.

Might be Steelmate alright. I just said I'd ask the guy for a price and let Seb know. Its up to yourselves if you want to go with him. I dont know the cost of the alarms and have nothing to do with pricing. Not sure how much people charge for the "fitting" of an alarm. I thought on the whole it was cheap enough, I was quoted €700 for an alarm with remote start on the last FTO. In fairness I dont know what brand the alarm was so that could account for the difference.

yeah, the clifford 650 with remote start was about 700 last year when I checked. It's all down to the brand of alarm I'd say.

Maybe €400 is quite reasonable after all..

I paid 1100 euro for the full bells and whistles (remote start, turbo timer etc) version of the 650 a few years ago. That said, 300 - 350 euro should get you a run of the mill alarm / immobilsor fully fitted.

If €300-350 is average for a basic alarm/immobiliser then €400 for a pager alarm with remote start must be a bargain. Well I think so anyway. And Alan has done a lot of the lads cars from the chinese and not one problem I'm aware of. If his services are wanted I can get his number etc and give it to Seb to sort out the rest.
